Matt Donovan / Junior / 17 years old / Human / Open Does not know about the Council, vampires, werewolves or witches. Lives with his mother and younger sister. Works at the Grill. Is best friends with Elena and Tyler. Sweet, sensitive guy who isn’t good with coping with extreme changes. Matt Donovan, popular football star of Mystic Falls High, does not have the normal home life of the average high school student. His mother is an alcoholic who spends most of her days in bed instead of going to work. This of course, means that Matt is forced into the caretaker role for himself and his reckless sister Vicki. Working at the Grill, Matt uses all of the money he makes to pay bills and keep food on the table. He loves his mother but the bitterness he feels towards the life he leads is slowly building stronger and he isn’t quite sure how long it will be until he finally breaks. Matt is always sure to keep a smile on his face around his friends. His done his best to be there for Elena since she lost her parents, but their relationship ultimately collapsed, leaving Matt heartbroken, never truly getting over his first love.
